2016 Annual General Meeting in London

2-Nov-2016

HOUSTON, November 2, 2016 –The Compass Rose Society, an international charitable organization that provides financial support to the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Anglican Consultative Council, held its annual meeting in London on October 3 and 4 at Church House Westminster.

Since its founding in 1997, The Society has donated over $9.5 million to support the mission of the Anglican Communion.

In 2015, the Society donated nearly $500 thousand including gifts to the Anglican Consultative Council; the Diocese of South Africa; the Diocese of Cape Coast, Ghana; St. George’s College Jerusalem; the Diocese of Jerusalem; the Diocese of Malawi; and the International Anglican Women’s Network.

Speakers at the two-day annual meeting offered members an up-to-date view of the work of the Anglican Communion.

The Most Rev. Dr. Josiah Idowu-Fearon, secretary general of the Anglican Communion, highlighted his recent activities throughout the Communion and his plans for the coming year.

The Rt Revd & Rt Hon Dr Richard Chartres, Bishop of London, described the emerging fellowship of Christians around the world commenting that, “…the future is in God’s hands and He has a purpose for our Church.”

Canon Sarah Snyder, the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Director for Reconciliation, outlined the programs she is leading throughout the Communion noting that reconciliation effects all people, all countries, and all of God’s creations. “Reconciliation,” she said, “is not about agreeing; it is disagreeing in love.”

During a visit to Lambeth Palace, the London residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury, members heard Archbishop Welby discuss the wide range of issues facing the Communion and plans for the upcoming 2020 Lambeth Conference. He invited the Society to take part in the conference and help raise funds to support it.

Following his remarks, the archbishop took members questions on many subjects including the European immigrant crisis, Muslim – Christian relationships, evangelism in China, and Anglican schools.
